Caltrain baby bullet #368 leaves Sunnyvale after discharging hundreds of commuters and continues to its terminus at San Jose Diridon. Locomotive #926 and cab cars #118 (second car from locomotive) and #119 (rear).
@dancena2 Double headers usually occur if an engine breaks down, Caltrain will for the time being add another locomotive to set until they just repair the broken engine at CEMOF.
@dancena2 It's just the occasional case of an older locomotive being switched and put into use with the Bombardier cars. Sometimes you'll even see a newer MP36 locomotive on the older gallery sets. They have to switch locomotives every now and then, and they can do it as frequently as once a day to once every twelve weeks. They'll also move the cars around, but not as frequently, maybe once every three months to two years.
@Taipei127 ive noticed that there are some caltrains that operate southbound, use an ordinary southbound equipment in the front, but the passenger cars are all bombardier, can u pls. tell me which trains use that type of equipment?
@dancena2 Yes that is correct. They used to operate Train 261 as a two-bike car gallery set (older stainless steel trains) but now they changed Train 261 and 378 to operate as a Bombardier set. I don't know why they want to use a scheduled train that attracts a lot of bike customers a set wit lower bike capacity, as those two trains are always crowded like that.
@dancena2 Yes, Train 257 typically operated as a Bombardier set until January 2011, when Caltrain implemented its service reductions and fare increases. The problem is, they cancelled the train 257 because of budget cuts and poor transportation funding from the state, so maybe a Bombardier set is stationed at San Francisco to serve as Train 368.
