This is the story of Sister Luke, from the time she enters the convent until she chooses to leave the Sisterhood. She comes from a well off family and her father is a prominent surgeon. He cannot quite understanding her calling but he is a loving father and cares for her, regardless of her decision. As a novitiate, she has difficulty swallowing her pride and is an excellent student, particularly in the science of tropical medicine. Having completed her studies, her hopes of going to the Belgian Congo are initially dashed. When she is finally assigned there, she finds that she is working in the European rather than the native hospital. There she meets the brilliant and hardworking Dr. Fortunati who helps her overcome a bout with tuberculosis. Having returned to the motherhouse, she has difficulty accepting the neutrality of her order as the Second World War rages and chooses to leave the Order permanently.

@JennyLF1987 I'm always amazed at people like you who Quote scriptures. You realize the bible was put together bu the Catholic Church and that everything that happens in a convent is based on tradtion and scripture. It is you lack of the understanding of scripture this is the problem

@055697 Apparently,you live in Sex and the City,which I think is very unfortunate.Hope you find some different female friends.I do think,however, hat what you're observing doesn't have a lot to do with feminism.I think it's still women defining themselves in relation to men and trying to get their way through emotional persuasion. It's sad that they see this as their best option, but is still something they can choose (not) to do, rather than something than their only option for success.

I am simply talking about people i know and they are spoilt brats. And no, I do not think women are second class citizens or anything like that. Actually, my understanding of the point of feminism was to make women fearless and independent but how many women/girls are actually like that? Most of them I know go into meltdown if they don't have a boyfriend and have tantrums when they do not get what they want on demand. We obviously live in different worlds.

I wasn't saying all women but most i encounter i am sorry to say are pretty spoiled, vacuous and materialistic. But I blame their fathers as their fathers indulge them too much and give them what they want on demand. So bad parenting is the cause.

Most women I know are trying to juggle a lot of things at once these days and to excel in all areas. Most women I know are hard-working and ambitious, not spoiled in any way because things don't just fall into your lap, especially these days.

Don't generalise that to all women just because you apparently don't know any educated women who have a set of their own values.

Yeah, and women now are mainly spoilt entitlement princesses who think the world revolves round them. As for self respect and self esteem they get that through following the shallow path of jumping into bed with the best looking and richest men. Most girls are now mindless servants of materialism.
