Technologists are researching new ways to power everything that is powered by an engine running on fossil fuels. And now an innovative team of from Germany and Switzerland is producing the world's largest solar-powered sailboat with the help of Autodesk design software. This slidecast offers a phone interview with Raphael Domjan, CEO of Planet Solar (and skipper of the boat) and Stephan Muller, executive director of the firm building the boat.
Great looking boat. But how "green" is it really. I'm curious, where are all the materials sourced from to build it?

Yeah I'm confused. People have been sailing around the world for centuries. While solar is obviously do-able it is still too expensive and impractical to be commercially viable, whereas wind has proven to be economically viable already for centuries.
I would have thought that building new sail technology with solar as a backup would have been a better solution.
And of course, the Americans and Russians have demonstrated that nuclear propulsion is workable...
