These two King Eiders, a first winter male and a female, were found by Paul Keogh on the 3rd January 2009 at the shellfish farm beside the Goose Field at Lissadell. These birds were filmed through a telescope with a digital camera by Mícheál Casey at dusk, so the image quality is poor.
King Eider is a very rare vagrant in this area. It breeds in the Arctic Circle, and usually winters in Greenland and northern Scandinavia.
