The Abenaki language has managed to survive the past several generations with only one speaker, like Cécile Wawanolett or Monique Nolett-Ille, per generation teaching a mere handful of students in Odanak or the eastern United States. Today their students, Philippe Charland and Brent Reader, maintain the thin lifeline to this endangered language.

  • I believe I may have some Abenaki blood in me. I just won't know how much for sure since so much of my family's history has been lost and just never talked about. Nevertheless I am happy to see the Abenaki culture coming together and fighting for the rights they deserve. I have much respect for the Abenaki movement.
