@britainmalbangkok and yes i do believe that they should make moore, oklahoma 1999 tornado an F6 along with GUIN,Alabama F5 of the 1974 super outbreak and xenia, ohio 1974 F5 tornado along with the tri-state tornado of 1925 these are the only 4 tornaodes that was almost considered given F6 status by the scientific community but only achieved F5 statuts.

@britainmalbangkok the damage at murphrysboro had F5 Damge written all over it but the damage at griffin, indiana was worse. foundations were gone. there were areas where it looked like the wind digged into the ground 5-10feet deep (gullies) according to the report. this thing was multivortex and producing satellite tornadoes on the edge of the cloud according to eyewitnesses and now they maybe adding an additional 10-15 miles to the beginning of the track because of an old redcross report.

@usgitmo33 Are you saying the winds are over 318 mph during the 1925 Tornado. They should of made the Moore, OK Tornado in 1999 an F6.
-
@britainmalbangkok at the end of the 20th century upon inspection of photos of damage to Griffin, IND from the entrance point and the exit point. many scientists considered giving the Tri-State Tornado the F6 rating "inconcievable winds" but did not and just left it at F5 rating.

@usgitmo33 Okay, that is another reason why there were a lot of deaths, but even to this day with all the technology, tornadoes still can't be predicted always. Scientist to this day still don't have all the answers about tornadoes. The system in the 1800's, I doubt did a major difference maybe a small difference, although small is better than none.

@britainmalbangkok the alert system existed in the 1800's created by Lt. john finlay it wasn't as advanced as ours today but many lives were saved. about the 1880's the army signal corps took it over. the general who was in charge banned tornado forcasting saying the it was still impossible to predict the actual touchdown and did not want to spread panic among the people. it wasn't until the 1950's that the banned was lifted.
