The only problem with being such a frequent zoo visitor as I am is that you can become really attached to all the animals. So when one is moved, or one dies, it is very upsetting, no matter what age you are.
This video, recorded just a couple of weeks ago, shows the male and female (father and mother) Victorian crowned pigeons walking around together in the Zoo's McNeil Avian Center. (The male is seen toward the end of the video.)
Unfortunately, the male died suddenly and unexpectedly last week.
As sad as this news is for me, I know it is much harder for all the keepers who took such good care of him for so many years. They kept him physically healthy and mentally alert, and, it looked like he was thinking about trying to have more offspring now that the baby Victorian crowned pigeon is growing more independent.
