  • Tegatana no Kata is a little more complex than what you are demonstrating. Tegatana no Kata is Geis' version, not Tomiki's. Geis changed "The Walks", in the late 70's early 80's, made them easier and ineffective. There is footage available of Tomiki developing Onsoku, Tandoku Undo and Tentai, or Tegatana Dosa as it is commonly referred. Keep training, ask questions, demand answers.

  • @SenseiArashi I would agree, except He is doing things in a manner in which I don't ever wish to train. Thats why I left his system over 8 years ago.. Its ok, but he is way too flowery for my personal taste.

  • I agree. I have seen many variations to this same thing, so far I believe the variations are in the thoughts of how you are being attacked, and the corresponding proper movements for the person doing the walk... there seems to be more inside it than that though.

  • Thank you for posting this. I can never practice enough. This will help me in my own studio.

  • Great demo! I especially like the counting in Japanese. That was a nice touch. I'm gonna be picky, though, and say the linguist in me cringes, because I learned six as "lok", because of the R/L displacement, but I don't actually think there's anything really wrong with saying it with an R. I'm sure there are multiple variations on all of these

  • Excellent !

  • HAHAHA I used this video to remember whether it started out left or right on diferent hand techniques.Yellow belt examination O_o I was taught to curve my feet on the second to last technique O_O

  • I have seen a LOT of different variations on unsuku, many involve the sudden sharp movement, some involve the slower smoother movements. This however is pants, the count should be before the movement as the movement is avoidance, the count is a strike, you CANNOT avoid a strike before it happens, even if you a talking SEN-SEN-NOH-SEN

  • well, that is about as close to the way Merrit Stevens use to teach the walks as anybudy I've seen in a long time...nice to see. The order is a bit differant, but not radically, like the way Nariyama has changed it over the years..nice to see

  • We are going to have to get together and discuss this kata for hours...deep study it is.
