  • Hehe... yes and no. In a lot of ways it was worse, but that made it better, if that makes sense. I mean, the production values were rock-bottom, and the kids they used were barely actors.. but that made it seem so much more real than any similar show. I remember the episode where "The Zit Remedy" played at the talent show or whatever... they could have just had them lip-sync along to "real" music, but instead it was the actors actually playing their instruments... badly.

  • I used to watch (if I remember correctly) Kids of Degrassi on CBC.

I never did watch the Degrassi Junior or High in it's original run but I would sure hear girls squeal about it the next day in their debates of who was cuter, Joey or Wheels.

As someone once said, Degrassi was the most real kids drama on television at that time.

  • Voula just vanished into thin air after the first season.

  • That's the old Towers Department store on the corner of Carlaw and Gerrard streets in Toronto's Riverdale district. Ahhh good times.

  • Degrassi Junior High was a great antidote to the glamorous teen shows shown so often in America. The Next Generation has totally sold out and is basically no different from the American shows that Degrassi was originally so different from.

  • BeefBoullionaire hit it right on the money! Despite the lack-lustre production and the glitziness seen on today's Degrassi, the kids on that show were able to discuss the issue relevant to teens back in the day. I grew up personally around the late 90's, and recalled watching this show on showcase. I still find the original degrassi more relevant and more realistic than what the new degrassi is showing. Can't stand the new one, and I'm supposed to be part of that particular generation XD

  • ... which I can relate to, because I also played in a band at my grade 8 talent show, equally badly, which was also caught on tape.

  • I remember watching Degrassi right after the Wonder Years on Monday nights. :)

  • Was this just as bad as the Degrassi they show now?
