I am not a performer so obvious slip ups every now and then. The video's there to help those who need a more hands-on/visual approach. Otherwise here are the tabs:

Really fun to play, great song. The original's played without capo but my fingers are far too weak to do that so for anyone in the same boat as me, here you go.

The fingerpicking is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Practice. It's essentially the same as the picking in "Dust in the Wind."
Picking tutorial for Dust in the Wind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN6VLI1Dml4
Picking tutorial/supplement for Lonely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-KcNm4_Gbo

Standard tuning
Capo 4
Chords used:
C (x32010), E (022100) or E7 (020100), Am (x02210), G (3200(3)3), G# (466xxx) and A# (688xxx or x1333x)

Verse:
C E7 Am G x3
C E7 Am G# A#

Chorus:
C E7 Am G

If you're looking to play the song without capo (or on piano or whatever), here are the proper names of the chords and chord progression (courtesy of GreatjayQ):

E G# C#m B
E G# C#m B
E G# C#m B
E G# C#m C D

Since I've been asked about the strumming pattern:

My strumming is a bit different. I full on slap the guitar whereas the original is more subtly muted? If you listen to the original, it goes something like: d(hold) d(light palm mute at the end of that strum) then uudududu until the end of the measure.
Mine goes: ddux du udududu (hopefully I counted all the ups and downs)

Camera: Canon 500D with a 50mm f1.4 lens
Guitar: Ibanez AEG8E
Capo: I don't fucking know. It's 5+ years old and pink. :3

And some sound advice from beemuddled:

For those of you having trouble with the plucking/rhythm, try skipping the last two notes in each measure (except for G). I had a lot of problem with the rhythm as I couldn't pluck it fast enough/to the right timing and even though it doesn't sound as good, it's helped me a lot. practice doing it without the last two notes, and when you can play it fast enough, try playing with all the notes.

Boyshorts wooooooo!

  • I love it! I can't play the strumming parts G# and A# because my fingers are too short... but I just have a quick question about the strumming in the chorus. How do you get that flicking sound that you add when you strum the guitar? I don't understand how you are strumming it but only having the percussion come out! Thanks.

  • @Deokgo I use my palm. Kinda slap down on the strings to get that sound.

  • Thanks a lot for your tutorial. You're also a good guitar player too. Can you tell me the name of camera you used to record your video? I want to buy a camera and I want buy a camera like this one. The quality of video is good and image is nice too. Please answer me as soon as possible!. Thank you very much ^^

  • @alohaoe123 Thanks. Check the description, it's all there. My camera's pretty old now though, and the lens you use is also very important.

  • is the capo supposed to be on the 4th fret? :/ why isn't yours then? :/

  • @gjhsmiles Yes, capo should be on the 4th fret if your guitar's in standard tuning. My guitar was tuned down by half a step (i.e. instead of standard tuning (EADGBe), all strings were a half step down (EbAbDbGbBbeb)) hence the capo on the 5th fret

  • @55divi hahaha you should watch pros play. They're the amazing ones. If you practice diligently then yes, you will improve a lot, even without lessons. You can easily teach yourself. Do you personally know anyone who plays? Ask them for help. Lessons are a great foundation but I don't think they're essential when it comes to playing guitar, whereas with other instruments they're pretty much the backbone of being able to play well. You also need patience and determination. Fightttingggggggggggg.

  • Question: for example, chord C, (x32010),where X means to not play it,but how? I cant be skipping it when im strumming right? :( this is the 2nd song im learning,3rd day playing the guitar, callus nt formed yet but the pain is more bearable if it matters..

  • she's hot and her tits is cute

  • @Eilasawti well when you strum you don't just mindlessly hit all the strings so yes you are not supposed to strum the low e string for c or else it will sound bad because you added an extra note to the chord XD so just keep practicing and it'll be fine

  • haha so cuteeeee :DD
