    What do you want, explosions and violence in EVERY single Star Trek film?? You would get bored of it. Star Trek NEEDED comedy and fun-filled adventure because all it's previous films were nothing but violent. And statistically speaking, this one is actually one of the best Star Trek films.The vast majority enjoyed it so your comment would make no impact whatsoever. The worst Star Trek film was the Final Frontier. It got the lowest ratings out of all of them on Rotten Tomatoes.

    They explain in the movie why whales and not dinosaurs... the probe had means of communicating with the whales.

    I think you're taking the movie too seriously. It's a comedy. Laugh. Try it.

    "Too lighthearted, no violence, no blood, no explosions... doesn't feel like a true Trek film"

    I agree. This movie did a terrible job of conveying Roddenberry's vision of a future filled with blood, violence, and explosions.

    This movie was an envirowhacko mess. If only we didn't wipe out the whales (psst...they're still there) aliens wouldn't destroy the Earth. Why not aliens looking for dinosaurs, or any one of millions of other species that disappeared long before man appeared? Also, the idea that an alien destroying the Earth "accidentally" (via technology the alien created and projected) and that it's our fault the aggressor is destroying us is a basic liberal premise.
