Just finished with the Aconcagua guiding season and headed to Cerro Tronador in the Lake district when I received a phone call from Willie who just finished a speed ascent and circumnavigation of Aconcagua in 32 hrs from trail head to trail head with the news of a good weather window in Patagonia. We drove 1000 miles on route 40 with mud and huge pot-whole, arrived in Chalten after 14 hrs non stop on a sort of Dackar Rally, steeped down and prepared our gear like we used to do in Yocemite Valley- a small rack, one sleeping bag for two and headed for a huge aproach to the base of the west face of Fitz Roy. Three days later we where sea kayaking 800 miles north among sea lions in the cost of Patagonia after climb the French NW Ridge Afanassieff route; Likely this is one of the longest routes in the whole massif.
