@edelinet Me too. The tears are falling on my lap. I sang this song to my babies, neverknowing if I would ever hear this magnificent recording again. Thank you so much.

From the very first time I heard this beutiful piece of music I was greatly moved. Then when I heard it in song with these beautiful lyrics, well words just can't describe it. This just portrays such a beautiful feeling of serenity. I understand why it is called American Hymn. Just magnificent.

Fantastic song and I adore Placido although I must say I would prefer a less 'operatic' rendition. Opera singers are just TOO GOOD to sound plausible singing popular music, in my opinion.

@dannytows I whole heartedly agree with you!!

Lee Holdrige's "East of Eden" score is absolutely beautiful. They ruined it by adding these dumb lyrics to make it "An American Hymn." They should have left it alone.

@edelinet I have the original LP and have the song downloaded to my IPod ... just love it

Placido has the voice of an angel and this is an UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL song!!!!!!!!!
I'm italian and, believe me, a very maniac of operas. Placido has the better and powerful voice. A level above Pavarotti and two over Carreras (before illnes, after he can't be judged).
Thi song always makes me shiver.
I apologize for my english
