The Wimshurst Machine was the workhorse for electrostatics work from the late nineteenth century until about 1930. Attractive and reliable, this version of the well-known Wimshurst machine provides smooth operation. It is sturdily constructed with a durable laminate base and machined rigid polymer support elements. It has 32cm unbreakable plates and two high-capacity Leyden jars that ensure reliable operation under all but the most humid conditions. At low humidities 10-12cm sparks can be drawn between the adjustable ball-ended electrodes. Charge leakage from the Leyden jars is very low. The jars also can be disconnected to lower the capacitance of the system and permit rapid sequence of sparks to be generated. Includes instructions.
