Uh excuse me but you couldn't be more wrong. This movie is not terrible at all. You guys just didn't get it, which is not the movie's fault.

To truly appreciate the film, you really have to understand the culture and/or have similar experiences as the protagonist. I really don't know how to explain this but it's is more about how you feel (about the characters and their interactions) than what you see on screen (the plot, actions, visuals, etc).

But then again, if you prefer the big extravaganza/fantasy/epic movies like Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle, then I guess it's no wonder you wouldn't like this one.

Since you like Ghibli movies, you should TOTALLY watch Kiki's Delivery Service (about a witch in training), Spirited Away (a brilliant movie about a girl who is taken to the spirit world) and Castle In The Sky (about two kids who search for the legendary floating city of Laputa)

All are wonderful!

crazy girl, slapping and punching, nothing happens at all....yes, that's right..

I knew this movie would be underappreciated in other countries.

The story looks so simple yet so calculated as to have a kind of unintended effect.
