Built as Barrenjoey (1913) at Morts Dock Sydney, the North Head serviced the Sydney-Manly route for over 70 years. At 500 gross tons and 210 feet in length, the North Head now lies aground on a creek bed near Cairns. The hull still appears to be in quite good condition.

The North Heah ferry is as beautiful as ever...i visit the property where she lives every so often and everytime I step on board her (which was probably a couple days ago)she is still standing strong; not rotting, nor degrading. I tend think about how amazing of a journey The North Head has voyaged. You can still walk down to the engine room, the first floor, up both sets of stairs to the top floor and out to both bows, brilliant view from both views :)

Wow I can't believe I found this clip. Thank you.
Interesting that she was repainted in the old PJ&MSSCo colours. When did this happen?

That is sad. I wish Sydney had updated some of these old ferries. They would have been great for tourists and us.
Where are the South Steyne and the old Showboat???

I saw this ferry in Hobart and immediately took a liking to the old tub. She was being restored at the time and I remember thinking of what I'd do if I had the coin. Been trying to keep track of her unfortunate voyage around Australia, since. It would be good if it could be publicly owned as a floating museum or something instead of passing from one under funded owner to another, That's where the problem lies - money. Is there some kind of grant that could be accessed? Save the Nth Head!!!
