why you americans tend to see the Roman Empire only under a profile of violence and power? The roman society were also formed by normal people with normal lives as merchants musicians dancers poems writters scientists doctors farmers breeders with many stores into the cities as mercati traianei in Rome where they sold the products for living. Romans were normal people as we are in a different historical period. Dont' think to romans only based of violence and battles..

@milly8389 furthermore the romans were brilliant tacticians with a mastery of siege craft that was unmatched at the time. they did not actually engage in wars of conquest, their expansion was the result of reactionary wars. it was very rare for the romans to clearly instigate a war. their honor was ironclad and they looked after local supporters in occupied territories. they remind us of a time when people obeyed a code of honor, when a certain respect was due each other.

@milly8389 don't group us all as such but there is a reason for that. for better or worse America is a warrior nation with pride in it's military. the roman army had a reputation since the early days of the empire for being relentless, they did not give up they did not falter and they did not let up. the term Pyrrhic victory refer to a hellenic king who won several battles in italy against the early empire but took such losses that he was forced to give up.

@milly8389 I disagree, It wasn't the farmers the artists or the writters that made Rome an empire, it was the suscess of its legions, and through cheer brutality they conquered the western world, I'm amazed at the huge amount of you people that lurk around Youtube claiming to be proud of the empire while disregarding the fact most of you descent from the same barbarians the Romans turned into whores, gladiators, and slaves and quite literary lived of them.
