Joke van den Oever and Reinder van Tijen from the dutch foundation Demotech, design for self-reliance, went to Kenya in June 2009 to teach people how to make a Hy2U handwashing device. The Hy2U solves the problem of the lack of hygiene and comfort due to the lack of piped water. With the Hy2U you can wash your hands with a small amount of clean water. It is made by the people themselves out of local materials that even the poorest people can afford. One important value of the H2yU is that people can make it the way they think it's most beautiful. Everyone deserves a beautiful bath room. Handwashing saves lives.

  • Very nice to see how it gets people involved in their own hygiene , would like to use the information in Nyanza , region around Homabay where i have a project , thanks for showing , is the material needed for making available in west Kenya , Kisumu?

  • Great video Reinder!

  • That is great Reinder! It is so great to see the people feeling empowered! This project and others like it is really the way to help others in area of this world where people have little access to such conveniences as running water!
