people in my collage are catching the swine flu but no one died....

Exactly, that's why the WHO keeps raising the alertness levels, to be better safe then sorry.

@ carrierexchange...
Most people who got the flu in 1920 lived too; it only killed 2% of those infected in the United States.
Swine flu has already proven itself to be more deadly than regular influenza; there are 2,500 suspected cases of Swine flu in mexico with 168 suspected deaths, giving us a mortality rate of 6.7%, which is much *higher* than either the flu of 1920 or the standard flu (which has a death rate of only .1%).
Better safe than sorry, wouldn't you say?

thousands of ppl a year in the US die from the flu

Thank you!, some one listen to this guy.

actually now that everyone thinks the apocalypse is coming in the form of the flu and millions are dying (well in many peoples fantasies) i think obama should promote his health care plan.... It is a good opportunity for it

all of the people comparing this to other things are stupid. This flu has just started you will not see many deaths now but as time progresses you will begin to see much more. so instead of acting like its not a big deal you are stupid, this will be a major problem if no vaccine is created quickly

This isn't 1920, most people who get the flu live.
This virus is no different from regular influenza.

The baby actually died of pneumonia witch was onset by the flu.
God I hate the media these days.
Toddles dies from the flu. It sucks but it happens all the time in the US with the common flu virus and we never get a news report about it. Scare tactics FTW.
