George Alexander Graham Adamson was born in Etawah, India (then British India) on the 3rd of February 1906.
At the age of 18 George came to Kenya, East Africa in 1924 to work on his father's coffee plantation. Working on a plantation was not suited to his adventurous spirit and in the following years he tried various things and worked at many different jobs. Years later in 1968 he vividly described these adventures in his fascinating biography titled 'Bwana Game'(European title) and in the USA titled 'A Lifetime With Lions'. His 2nd book published in 1986 is an equally fascinating autobiography titled 'My Pride and Joy'.
In 1938 at age 32 this tan and handsome young man with sandy blond hair and striking blue eyes joined Kenya's Game Department as a warden. Being a game warden was an occupation that suited him extremely well and one at which he thrived. He met and married Joy four years later. Joy had three miscarriages and they were never able to have children...Sadly on August 20, 1989 George Adamson was murdered in Kenya, East Africa by Somalian bandits when he went to the rescue of his assistant and a young European tourist in the Kora National Park. He is buried in the Kora National Park near to his brother Terrance, Super Cub and his beloved lion friend Boy.

  • Great guy who used to be a hunter and was hunted

  • @Missnoopuka he never killed one single animals he wasn't hunter.

  • I have such reverence and admiration for this man. When I was 10 years old I read Born Free. It had such a tremendous impact on my life. I think he was one of the greatest men who ever lived. The animals so desperately need someone to step up and continue his work. This video is awesome. I find myself coming back to it about every month or so. It haunts me.

  • @AnimalsRock4Love watch?v=yKvlBjY3pXk

  • George Adamson is the man who prepared Christian for a life in the wild

  • just a couple of things. first he was a very good and cool man so dont take anything i say here as being negative to him just to a few comments. 1. ill be honest i dont know if hes ever killed a animal but if you read his bio before he became a game warden he was a professional safari hunter. so he either killed or lead people to kill animals. 2. to agora1955 he was 83yo. yes very tragic he was killed but no way can fall under way to young. and lastly check out kevin richardson, not the singer

  • Why why why do the best human beings always seem to lose their lives

at the hands of violent people and way too young.? My Gran used to say

God misses His kindest and most worthy children and takes them Home to

Heaven sooner . Maybe she was right. RIP George. I hope you are living on

a heavenly reserve with all of your wonderful lion friends.

  • I so admired George Adamson, he had a gift and used it to help the Lions...the relationship that he had with them I can so relate to, with my domestic cats, and I have read just about every book by him and about him. Born Free, and Living Free the movies, I have watched many times...I know he is missed very much by the Animal kingdom, he was their voice in a lot of ways.

  • All humans should be more like George. I hope those bandits were killed and eaten by lions..

  • fantastic song!

  • Wish I had seen him in person...

  • @az4er Because people do not care about animals. They generally only care about other people. Humans are so detached from nature that people refer to animals and humans like they are two different things. George Adamson was a hero and for my personal preferences he was one of if not the greatest man to ever walk this Earth.

  • And this man has not been knighted or recognized by WWF or some other international institution, why?

  • Also 2:27, that is Christian again in the back, Boy is the one laying closer to the camera.
