Prototype of my Busker Cajon Kit.

A highly compact full drum kit plus a cajon which doubles as a stool, and into which the entire kit and its rug all fit for very easy transport.
The cajon has four resonant panels for a wide range of tones, the "Busker" kit has a snare drum, three toms, a bass drum (which is built into the cajon and has a rod linkage connected to the foot pedal), a ride cymbal, cymbal bell, ten inch and six inch splash cymbals and ten inch hi-hats. The hi-hats are mounted in the centre, the other 4 cymbals are in stacked pairs on either side.
This video briefly demonstrates the prototype, then there are several short clips of it in use playing along to CDs of different musical styles, giving an idea of how versatile this incredibly compact drum and percussion set up is.
Furthermore the "Busker" range of drums has been painstakingly designed to be considerably quieter than other drum kits, making them suitable for all acoustic sessions. The sound quality is poor, but gives some idea of
how it sounds.

  • Why thank you, Mr Wittilyrude Comedysurname!

  • Yup 100% acoustic. I have been manufacturing and playing my "Busker" range of rectangular and square drums for quite a while, and some have been used extensively, from the biggest festival stages to the smallest bars and clubs, in theatre pits, with a symphony orchestra, mic'd and un-mic'd, on recordings, and busking. I have lots of drums and kits to choose from, but these have proved themselves far beyond their original intended use as a practice kit.

  • I absolutely love the toms and snare! My wife teaches a "stomp" class for kids and would love this. Are plans available? I noticed in a previous post that the head fabrication can take some skill....would you be willing ot share? Thanks so much for your time!

  • @stickandacan There are several kits and individual drums in my "Busker" range, including Standard and Custom Kits, the Cajon Kit, the "Feet" kit, the Busker XY Snare drum and the Busker Bottleneck Drum. Also on yt is "The Drumcar", one of my regular sets built onto an electric 3 wheeler. I do not make plans available as I manufacture and sell the drums and heads together to ensure proper fit. They look very simple, but I have almost 20 years of experience designing and making them right!

  • This is SO COOL!!!

  • @batman4god Thanks, there is also Busker Cajon Kit 2.mov with a few extras. Sorry about the poor sound.

  • The stereotypical crazy drummer and the great British eccentric.... what a combination. Fantastic

  • I fucked a cat

  • To my understanding this is 100% acoustic.. you've accomplished a ridiculously accurate sound with your square body-less drum design.. are those single ply? How are they tensioned? I'm trying to understand the mechanical linkage of your bass drum, but it's hard to make out due to the video quality. I think I understand the hi-hat to be one of those flexible spring cable things... You should patent this kit design as well as your square drum design ASAP, if you haven't already...

  • Anyway, thanks for sharing.. a higher quality video/ close up would be much appreciated!!!
