Elevation is about 11,000 feet and we're just below the summit of Red Mountain Pass.

  • you have the pump turned up on that thing or is it smoking that bad just due to the 11k feet??? Im guessing due to the altitude, but Ive never had an older diesel to know how they react to high elevations

  • @MF11283 Both. Air is pretty thin at 11k. Pump is turned up a little as well. Used to be all diesels smoked like that, the good old days....

  • put a cummins in it

  • I get a kick out of all the Billy Big Riggers that come on YouTube and tell everyone about diesel trucks.

  • sweet you guys went from Wisconsin,,,,im in antigo, you should have picked me up i would have paid my way just for the ride,,,,, or pulled my camper in my dodge behind for sleeping arrangements lol

  • Yeah, we actually rotated drivers and slept in the bed of the truck, don't tell the DOT...

  • the best toy hauler i ever seen

  • The guy w/ the camper you pass from opposite direction @ 45, looks to his wife and says "We're selling this shit and buying that next"

  • Thanks for sharing, one of the sweetest sounds in the world...

  • Go for it. Just leave some extra travel time. We drove nonstop and did 1200 miles in about 35 hours. Stay off the interstates to keep from getting run over, 50 is the best route to get over the mountians in my opinion. We also took a lot of tools and spare parts even though we didn't need them. Napa doesn't carry too many parts for these trucks. A lot of prep work but it makes for an awesome trip. BTW, you are close on the location, we are just north of the Idarado mine site.
