About how long do your shields last you? I recently made myself a roundshield out of some fairly thick planks of wood, I'm hoping it will last me quite some time. It looks like yours can't last too long judging by the kind of damage those dane axes are doing to them.

a peace of advice if u have the spear and ur behind guys with shelds stab them in the foot that way they will drop their weapons and u can get em in the heart

I totally agree, but i would make a horrible actor/stuntman cause i would feel the desire to follow through. I am sure if i tried what you guys do, i would get it after awhile.

Lol, i would rather do boffer fighting. Mainly cause im a sissy, but also dont like pulling shots.
Your guys costume is amazing, good video

Thanks man, and sorry to hear you're a sissy.... GRIN
Seriously though, pulling shots is a necessity with steel weapons... but each of us could seriously hurt someone with a boffer weapon if we swung full force.

I like the overall concept of what your doing however I still think using rattan sticks is the better way to learn weapons technique. Being a fairly light weight person sparring against much larger persons than myself I learned to throw my blows almost entirely with the hip and waist rather than using primarily the arm muscles as your group seems to be doing. In other words in my opinion sparring with steel instead of rattan seem to teach average sized persons to hit too light.

To start with, there is NOTHING that rattan is good for other than cheap bar furniture.
You seem to think you know something about what we do, but your own comments prove otherwise. Look closer at the way we move, circle, sidestep, advance and close,.... our whole bodies are in movement while looking for an opening (or making one). Fighting with rattan groups limits you to standing in one general spot and swinging like an idiot. There is NO substitute for fighting/training with steel.

Hey there Skallagrimm, I'm a big fan of your videos and was wondering if i could get your opinion on our group. Just look for the Leongatha Medieval Society on search. We're the largest independant re-enactment group in Victoria, Australia. We've been around for about two years and would love to have you round for a bash if you're ever down under 8)

Pleasure to "meet" you Dean! I'd love nothing more than to get out of the states and visit about a dozen places, including Australia. When and if I ever can afford to do so, I'll certainly look you guys up. I also do some 14th-15th C. longsword and polearm stuff.... videos of that coming soon. Keep on swingin'!!
