Shinzen talks about the issue of bearing down or easing up in meditation practice and how he deals with this paradox - by offering people strategies for both so they don't get one-sided. He also suggests how one might know if their choice of the bearing down or easing up approach is working. Filmed in Nov. 2009 at Mt. Carmel Spiritual Centre in Niagara Falls.

  • I love this man!

  • Hi Shinzen, first of all: thanks so much sharing your insights and being so clear.

I've looked on your websites, but haven't found the instructions on 'do nothing'. I'm probably efforting too much. ;)

  • You have helped me to find what feels like a good path , and brought means to which i can use to live my life and not just waste time thinking about it :)

So i thank you, hope you carry on with this.

Science of Enlightenment, is a great book

  • these talks help me a lot. and i like the pragmatism you show, free of "bearing down" AND "easing up" - if you will :)

thanks from a fresh rinzai student
