The creation of producer/label-head Dick Griffey and Leon Sylvers, this Los Angeles band did light funk and clever dance-pop numbers in the late '70s and '80s. Bassist Kevin Spencer and vocalists Nidra Beard and Linda Carriere comprised the group. They got off to a fast start with the single "I Don't Want to Be a Freak (But I Can't Help Myself)" from their 1979 LP Your Piece of the Rock. The next single, "I've Just Begun to Love," was their lone Top Ten R&B hit, peaking at number six in 1980. They continued recording for Solar through the '80s, but never registered any other major records. Leon Sylvers joined them in 1981, but his presence didn't rectify the situation. They remained on Solar until 1988.

  • @porkchop745 Sweet Lee's moves were just as good as his music.

  • @Funkbassist7 you have the right to your opinion and it's respected, but this thread was never a question of his talent as it was his character. Leon will go down in history as one of the GREATEST writer/producer, along side Jimmy and Terry and Holland-Dozer-Holland ever, but his trait of how he treat women and the manner of how he acknowledges SOME, not ALL of his children will compare to Hitler to the Jews. But you are right... who really gives a phuck! Thanks for the words of wisdom.

  • @taylor4660

Who has a Creole background. The Jacksons? The Sylvers? I would believe it for the Sylvers, but I beg to differ for the Jacksons. I know that The Jacksons do have a significant portion of native american (look @ Katerine Jackson).

  • @taylor4660

A la Beyonce or Prince. Many African Americans who have a Creole background look Hispanic or Half black/half white because of their multi ethnic hertitage (French, black, spanish, and native American or all three)

  • waw, souvenir...
