  • I think that it was spoken more as if from the Roman perspective. They saw their actions as "civilizing the barbarians that lived outside of their empire's borders". Obviously, when we look at events of the past we're looking at them with a modern perspective.

  • im not sure if it was about civilizing barbarians rather barbarians beating down and dominating other barbarians
