  • I saw Bruckner's Fifth with Herbert Blomstedt in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam yesterday. It was just impressive. The music, especially in Blomstedts direction, sounds like the confession of a Nietzschean Übermensch...

  • Glorious glorious performance, literally moved me to tears. I think this even beats my previous favourite - Gunter Wand's live performance with the Berliner Philharmoniker, back in 1995. Is there any chance this is on DVD? I'd really love to buy it.

  • Vieeeln Dank!! Ausgezeichnet und wunderschoen!!

  • This is old school Bruckner sound!! blazing brass with string arpeggios, modern conductors have largely softened the brass sound of late...And it's detremental to the score!!..Bruckner sounds best with full blooded sound!!..Good performance generally...

  • It has been popular said that James Brown was the 'hardest working musician' in the industry. Not to detract from James Brown's obvious passion by any means, just look at those members of the Gewandhausorchester at the end of this performance: they are utterly EXHAUSTED. Know why? They gave it everything they had, PLUS summoning up that extra required that comes out of nowhere when most would quit. THAT is why Blomstedt heralds them on the ovation. Those musicians are FABULOUS!

  • Blomstedt deserves appropriate credit for realizing the vision Bruckner intended: his direction is almost (with a few minor-by-comparison quibles) exceptional. However, lets not forget the other musicians involved in this spectacular performance: the members of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Without their expert playing AND knowledge of what Bruckner demands, there would not have been such a magnificent performance, regardless of who stood at the podium. Blomstedt would immediately agree.

  • @landolfiviolin1 I saw him conducting the fifth in Paris last year, it was absolutely amazing.

  • He is realy Bruckner Spezialist, he knows exactly what he wants!!!

  • This is the first time I've seen Blomstedt conduct. Great, great finale!

  • terrrriffic! danke 4 posting! one of the great symphonic endings everrrr!
