This tune celebrates an Elizabethan Actor, Will Kemp, who for a bet, danced from London to Norwich (80 Miles) in 1580- he did it in 9 days and won! During his journey a young maiden came out and danced with him for a mile 'to keep him company'
A popular tune at the time of Elizabeth the First and after.
I like this piece not very difficult

  • Great playing. Now I know the story (thanks for the info post) it does make more sense to play it quick. After all it is a jig! Now every time I play it I'll be thinking of Will Kemp the marathon dancer going to London. Ive done a version which I play much slower. See what you think. all the best Gary
