The truth is, being able to sing in a language doesn't necessarily mean one can speak the language fluently.

Singing is very much different than speaking. I myself can barely speak Japanese but I can sing in Japanese without difficulty. And I've seen a lot of people who can barely utter a complete sentence in English but with practice they can all sing English songs perfectly. It's all about mastering the basic pronunciation of the language (or just that of the song you're singing).
