Grandioso Mtro. Bolet, maestro de maestros.

@21tango12 You'll really have to listen a bit better!Whatever the duration,BORElet,(nothing like a sense of humor.. spelling is deliberate!),cuts out a large chunk of some of Rach's most fascinating writing,so it makes the comparison even worse if he takes about the same time.Ye Gods,i didn't think even he could be that pedestrian, and i heard him many times live.He had some beautiful qualities, but often limped laboriously and cut out tricky bits. For info:his cut here starts about 4.40. Regards.

@NOSEhow2LIV I was listening to the Rachmaninov recording of this and it is more or less the same duration and in my opinion, note for note practically the same. So too the "ponderous" and "unsure" sound of the piece. Try a comparison next time and you'll see what you have written doesn't really make sense. His name is Bolet, not "Borelet"

As ever, beautiful sound, carefully crafted, but also so ponderous and at the limit of pedestrian, he sometimes sounds unsure of what's supposed to come next. Why make a massive cut of some of the most intriguing &brilliant writing? (Borelet's speciality-- cut the spectacular bits!). After his leaden coda flourish, the Godowsky-ized uprush,(not bad actually, but originally an octave glissando)sounds incongruous.

They were playing this exact arrangement a few minutes ago on WQXR radio station. I'm here to listen to it again.

Bolet made a substantial cut in this performance -- he omitted most of the cadenza-like section after the return of the first theme. not sure why ...
