Burra Monster Mine - heritage under threat

The Greens are calling on the Government to strengthen the protection of the heritage status of the Burra 'Monster Mine' in Burra, South Australia.

Burra's history and heritage -- two of its greatest assets - are under direct threat by proposed mining exploration of the Reserve by mining company Phoenix Copper.

The International Council on Monuments and Sites have said that "Australia ICOMOS wishes to highlight that Phoenix's request to remove the Heritage Exclusion Zone over the Mine Reserve for mining exploration activity may put the heritage values of the site at risk."
