just wondering what is the necessity of transferring proteins to the membrane?

@bealebeale09 Transferring to nitrocellulose is essential because the proteins will stick to the nitrocellulose without destroying the epitope (so you can detect them with antibodies during the western). If you didn't transfer from the gel, the proteins would diffuse and leave the gel during the western. If you tried to fix the gel to prevent the proteins from diffusing, you'd ruin the epitope and no longer be able to detect the proteins with an antibody (no western blot possible).
