Ashkenay is a very capable conductor. I have never heard anything by him that I did not like. This recording is a very good samjple of his work. One thing I always admire about his conducting is his attention to detail. He does a beautiful job in his interpretation of the coda. The ending is one of Sibelius' most tender moments. Well done, Maestro!
I have kept it running just a little longer, and have discovered that the performance of the symphony is by Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra. A pretty respectable set of the symphonies, from what I read from accounts and reviews.
I have completed listening to this entire performance. Let me first of all say that as far as the value of the music goes, there is no question. I am in agreement with these posts 100%.
The performance itself is generally very good; I also wish I knew who the conductor is.
In places, I feel that the reading is just too fast, such as with the passage with undulating figures toward the end of the second movement, and most of the latter portion of the last movement.
This part of the 6th symphony is so lovely and a beautiful piece of music. Especially the ending!! I always thought this to be one of Sibelius most personal and beautiful symphonies together with the 4th symphony. good version of this piece , although I prefere Leonard Bernsteins version on Sony classics from the 60´ties.
Powerful and beauty orchestration acording pós romantic music.

my favorite sibelius symphony. Evocative, soulful, profound, surprising and interesting.

@alexpjp Doesn't seem too fast for the movement's tempo marking, 'Allegro molto'

The great symphony ever written! Without any doubt.
The beginning of this movement is too fast though.
