Taken at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in September 2009 with my Canon HF100 camera. Young female Great White shark in the Outer Bay exhibit. AMAZING aquarium!
UPDATE: This Great White Shark has been released back to the ocean.

Click on "HD". You may have to hit pause and let it load through once before watching in Hi-Def, depending on how slow YouTube is acting at the time. Watching the videos "in channel" in HD seems to give good results, sometimes. Give it a try. Helps a bit if your computer is fast. Not bad in non-HD also.

The species is not threatened through this act. One shark bred to a certain point in captivity is one that wasnt killed for its fins in the Indian ocean on the migration route.
Why do they put them in the tank at all then? To study them up close within a research environment so that their numbers can be better preserved.
people can swim and ride on the backs of great whites found in the wild. SHARKWEEK FTW.
Boo You're Close Minded Fears, TheLittleMangaGirl. WHAT WILD ANIMAL ISNT DANGEROUS???

They do release them for either that, or if the shark begins to prey upon the tank residents. Monterey Bay Aquarium rules.

Actually thins place is a very responsible Aquarium. Most people will never dive let alone dive with sharks so it is IMO more important they witness the beauty of these animals in order to care about them as a species. I believe they send the sharks back into the wild when they get over a certain size anyway.

All of you morons who are bitching about animal cruelty and keeping these animals temporarily in captivity need to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium's website and just read what their plans for keeping white sharks are all about. The largest one housed in the aquarium was 6 feet long, and was promptly released. These animals were quarantined and acclimated for long times before entering the exhibit, and were removed as soon as any behaviors changed, or if they grew close to 6 feet long.

Great Whites are not meant to be captivated. They can easily die. They're meant to be out in the open ocean. This is prison for them and it only serves as fun for the viewers. Sharks need our help, they're disappearing fast. Aquariums should be banned.
