Kerri L. Cavanaugh, M.D., M.H.S., Assistant Professor of Medicine and Medical Director, Vanderbilt Dialysis Clinic at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, presented "Addressing Health Literacy to Improve Chronic Disease Care" on May 17, 2012.

The talk focused on explaining the definition of health literacy and numeracy, including assessment methods; describing individual and system risk factors for low health literacy and its impact on health outcomes in diabetes, heart failure, and kidney disease; and discussing the evidence for improvement in health outcomes by addressing health literacy.
