I mean, Akito's really mean, and such, for emotionally and physically scarring multiple Sohmas, but you have to feel bad for her, since she was raised a boy, and her father died, and she's under so much stress, and her mom's, like, crazy.

akito was named the god of the zodiac. she was raised as a boy because her mother felt it was wrong to give birth to the god of the zodiacd who was a a girl. and so she raised akito as a boy so everyone will look up to akito and see a male figure for a god, instead of female. it's kind of sad that she cant just be herself, as a girl T^T

I love Akito, she's so freaking amazing in the 21st book! Shes like one of my fave characters now, her past is so freaking sad tho:(

@crystalbluewolf I meant that the people that dubbed the anime didn't know she was a girl until it was too late. Kureno, Shigure, Hatori, and Ayame know she is a girl because they were there before she was born. She doesn't bear the brunt of the curse. Have you even read the manga? The dying young part is only in the anime. She caused most of her pain on herself.

@LadyPotatoChip to be honest your not making any sense. The zodiac members, or at least some of them know she's a girl because she used to have like a crush on Shigure when she was really little. Of course she's possessive and angry when someone new comes into the picture. Akito bears the brunt of the curse, she sick and dieing because of it and she's afraid to lose any of the members because their really all she has left.

(I ran out of room, so continuing...) like she hurt Hatori when he announced his intentions of marrying Kana, and Kisa when Hiro told Akito he loved her. Akito was just angry and scared, and couldn't face the idea that maybe what her father had told her was wrong, and that she really was alone in the world. It's a scary thought, to be so alone. She might just be the most abused and vulnerable one of them all. I must admit I hated Akito at first, but she really is a facinating character...

And I believe the reason Akito was raised a boy was not neccessarily because of the issues involving, a female heir, but because Ren didn't want competition for her husband's affections.

Anyway, people keep saying that Akito's past is no excuse for what she did...but she really was raised very wrong and grew up deluded. while her actions were inexcusable, you have to understand the psychology behind them. If you recall, she hit people when they confessed thier love for someone else....

I understand why she is like that, though. Her mother was a jealous biatch, and her father felt the need to make up for it by convincing her she was born to be loved. Her mother, of of spite, refuted that. Alas, Akito grew up believing it and trying to prove her mother wrong. She couldn't understand why all the Sohma's were leaving her, and loving people other than her. That's explains the abuse, why she cried when Kureno's curse was broken, and why she hated Tohru so much.
