I just got the SD Media Launcher (March 27th 2008) for the Wii/Gamecube - a previous Wii update stopped this product from working. But it seems after being on Backorder the new disc I received works. It will run homebrew programs fine as long as the SD Media Adapter is NOT in the memory card slot when the disc boots, you have to wait to put it in or the Wii will just reset.

I bought mine from www.codejunkies.com they have versions that come with and without an SD memory card. My version was the $19 Gamecube/Wii model with NO SD card included, since you can get them cheap online.

  • does the SD media launcher still work for the gamecube? I have a gamecube and i want to give it a try but it dont want to waste my money. I just though maybe nintendo made datel/codejunkies change the SD media launcher so it doesnt work.

  • @cityflyguy It will always work for the GameCube as it's software can't be really updated. For the Wii it's a bit tricky as Nintendo is always pushing out new updates over the internet. However it's safe to say the GameCube will always work with it.

  • Dude, install the homebrew channel, and downgrade your wii. It's really easy.

  • @AverageMan94 I agree, I did this not long ago and I enjoyed it a lot!

  • what controller do you use with sd media launcher

  • @johnshafferdds Any gamecube controller. Wii controllers can not (will not) work.

  • Thanks, I didn't want to waste my money on it. So now I'll definitely buy it!

Now for those using this method and want to run GC backups, download GCoS

    You'll need it.

  • @powerbook86 Thanks mate I really appreciate your feedback =)

  • @powerbook86 Yeah, tried every trick in the book, so to speak. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's really finicky. Anyway, I haven't used it in a while, been doing other things.

  • @powerbook86 I've since bought a Wii but thank you either way. I never managed to get it to work but I think I will give it another shot because it's worth knowing (if only to help another gamer). Thanks

  • @kentbot Cards larger then 2GB may not be compatible. Any SDHC or SDXC cards are also not compatible. This system will only see older cards.

  • @pillarkutless777 I believe the SD Media Launcher doubles as an Action Replay and a Freeloader. But I'm not 100% sure, I haven't tried it in a long time.

  • @NeptuneNavigator01 Did you try inserting the memory card adapter after pressing the power button? Try Slot A and B. Also try using a cotton swab and a little amount of rubbing alcohol on the swab to clean the adapter and the memory card slot. But be careful and make sure everything dries.
