does just humming a long to a song help you become a good singer?

Humming is a great exercise and technique to feel were the sound should resonate in the mask... but singing requires using words and keeping the resonance in the same place which is the hardest part so humming is the first step.

I do know the technical terms for all the parts and pieces...but so what, if that doesn't help anyone.
