Hi, I'm Kris Richter, original creator of Beyond the INK. Do you want to know what our project is all about? My partners, Michelle Legg and Jessica Mills, couldn't be here today but we've been asked this question a lot lately, so listen up as I give you a sneak peak into the future of Beyond the INK!
Beyond the INK is a project geared towards promoting the true art of tattoos, the amount of labor that goes into creating that art, different styles different artists have and giving credit and appreciation to the artists where it is due for creating such amazing pieces. We're stressing subjects like, you must check portfolios, not all "artists" are truly artists, and don't price shop your tattoos because great tattoos take time and will most likely cost a pretty penny, but it is definitely worth it!
This summer things will start to heat up as we hit the road on an 8,000 mile, 30 some odd day 'Tattoo Tour' that features six impressive artists around the United States to show people what kind of art can be created on the canvas of skin. The three of us will be featured on this amazing journey as we blog in real time through journaling, video and photos on our website, TheBeyondtheINK.com.
We hope to educate and gain the support of the people we meet along the 'Tattoo Tour'. The more people we have paying attention, the more we can help spread the understanding of how to go about getting great tattoos from phenomenal artists instead of getting amateur "scratcher" work done for twenty bucks. Education of the public will raise their bar of expectations from the artists they seek out. Hopefully this will help eliminate so much bad work and so many cover ups!
It's kind of a broad goal, but in the end we want to show our support and help gain respect for the tattoo industry from the laymen general public that doesn't understand much about, or are not informed correctly about this industry.
We will be releasing our first promotional video soon featuring interviews from artists such as Larry Brogan, John Wayne, Kelly Gormley and Sean Herman in addition to an assortment of other people who are involved in the industry. We are very honored and excited to have the show of support we have for this project already and hope that it helps people to gain a greater appreciation for this age-old artform.
So stay tuned and check us out on Facebook at Facebook.com/BeyondtheINK as we attempt to bring reality back to the tattoo industry.
Who would you recommend in San Jose?
