Dean Karnazes - a man of inconceivable athletic prowess and endurance - set out to break a world record. He ran for 24 hours on a treadmill on the Reuters building in Times Square. He completed a distance equal to the total of five marathons, just one shy of the record. He also raised $21,000 for Athletes for a Cure from donors all over the country. Marvel at it and realize its importance in the endurance world. Now get motivated to take your sport even farther.
As a distance runner, much respect to Dean, however I kind of feel like he's becoming a poster-child for sponsors trying to sell their stuff to the running community. Not saying there's much too wrong about that, we need to know what's out there; I'm just saying be careful not to let the run be about anything more than running and the enlightenment. Nowadays it's far too easy for people to be bought. Keep up the good work Dean, you're an inspiration to the way of life.

@ipoollax7
you're a fucking idiot. Don't hate on someone who is successful while you're just a average joe-douchebag, sitting around thinking you're better than everyone.

Dean is nothing more than a media whore. He brings nothing new to the table, his times are straight shit, he travels around preaching to average joes about how to run when he has some of the worst habits endurance runners can have and saying how great he is when it is clear that he is not. If the general public wasnt so naive towards running they would understand Dean is nothing more then a giant douschbag

I attempted the world record for 24hrs two weeks ago, managed 129.2 mles, not bad, I was happy with that in the end.

Why are people comparing a marathon to an ultra? It's like comparing a marathon to a half marathon, a half marathon to a 10k, 10k to a 5k...just because you're fast/good at one, doesn't meen you'll be the best in everyone. For the record, the guy is an unknown legend. How many people have visited all 50 states, let alone run a marathon in them for 50 consecutive days? I rest my case

Endurance, definitely. Athletic prowess, that's debatable.

@racketer yes it is now. I used to run 3+ hours like Dean but now it's faster, you're talking out of your ass.

However for most of the professional Ultra guys a 90km isnt that hard. I would consider Anton Krupicka a "jogger" in terms of running strides.

@pandafc all winners of comrades marathon (90 km race in south africa) are excellent marathoners. No Dean-like jogger comes close to winning that race. Joggers like Dean struggle to beat the cutoff time of 12 hours.
