I had to split this video into 2 parts because of it's length. Go to my channel for part 2! I had previously recorded the video but I had to split it in two so, this is actually a video of a video! haha :)

THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE GUIDE TO MIXING!

  • where can i find the diagram with the Panning example.? Thanks. :)

  • @sonoffrog

    google image search

  • You have no idea how happy I was when I heard you using "Hello Seattle" as your example. I've watched a few of your tutorials now, and they're great! I'm subscribing, hopefully you keep them coming!! :D

  • @JordansBrightside

I like Owl city due to some of the cool effects they use in their tracks. It's always good practice to try and imitate others. Good ear training.

  • hey, when I mix my songs, I always end up having the levels on each track to loud, and my output goes beyond 0db. But I can't really hear distortion, and my mix sounds ok. Is it ok just to put the output down?

  • @AfiqHatta

NO. none of your inputs should ever go into red (clipping). You should NEVER solve the total output volume by using the main output slider. Always adjust your individual tracks to lower the overall volume.

  • regarding mixing inserts, is it okay to use inserts such as multipressors, limiters, spreads, etc. while mixing each track or are they just advisable to use when I go to mastering?

  • just subscribed :)

    very useful information

    thanks!

  • Thanks, I really appreciate this, I especially loved hearing -every- mistake I made, you were very thorough, now I know how I can fix it up.

  • @golgod7n True dat, however, logic operates at 32bit floating poit, which basically means you have unlimited (to all intents and purposes) headroom in the digital mixing environment. clipping 0dBFS will only affect the sound at your physical output stage (where the digital information gets converted to electrincal current to feed your speakers etc.) or when you record or bounce to a new audio file (as audio files are 24bit fixed and will therefore clip at 0dBFS). Still good practice tho :)

  • HELLO SEATTLE <3

  • At 2:45 why didnt you just activate the low freq cut off instead of pulling dBs down out of your lead?

And do you always use a compressor 1st rather than an EQ?
