What is this? Star~Planet~UFO. Footage taken 11/6/08 at 7:50 MST in the southern sky(from Southern Utah).
It has been there for many nights, even weeks. Last time I looked it was not rainbow flashing, it was bright and white.

  • I have no footage but for the last week or so I have been seeing one particular star flash rainbow like a strobe light. What is it?

  • I've been seeing alot of rainbow stars, more than ever before. I don't think they are all stars though. I look at the big dipper and they don't flash rainbows. There are to many of these to be planets, so what are they? Your guess is as good as mine.

  • What kind of camera do you have? I can't get a good shot on my mom's camera. I need something better.

  • This was taken with a Konica Minolta Dimage Z10, it is a 3.2 MP. May I recommend MORE megapixels than 3.2! I took some footage of distant city lights and it looked the same. However, this 'star' was twinkling rainbow colors.

  • the lights are wayy to bright to be a star sorry

in actual fact i know this because the sky was completely cloudy and no other stars in sight , plus i have seen this object move about 200 km in the space of 5 to 10 mins. my camera is an old crappy videocam with night shot. i was never able to pick up any stars on it at night but when i recorded this flashing rainbow object it came out very bright on my screen

  • it´s not Akturus, it´s Sirius. you can locate him on the left from the 3 Stars in a row in the orion-belt (?). hes flickering red,blue,green....

as i saw him first time i wondered around and done some research, so with the downloaded program Stellarium i figured it out, its Sirius! the only thing im wondering is, why do i not have seen him so much flickering in the past!??

  • i just video taped a similar looking thing.. it just keeps blinking and hasnt moved...

  • @tisturod i saw the same thing a few nights ago and it totally caught me off guard and freaked me out. i was sure it was a ufo... after doing some reading, stars can apparently strobe rainbow colors when they are low int he atmosphere due to atmospheric turbulence or interruption due to temperate/weather/etc... i was kind of disappointed to learn that it most likely wasn't a ufo, but i'm still going to say it was.
