The soviet people wanted freedom. But the Stalinist bureaucracy did not granted them freedom. In the end, the bureaucracy changed sides and became capitalist. The government of Russia today is made up by the sons and daughters of the former Stalinist Nomenklatura.
In 1991 the Soviet Union died, what came after it was a social disaster. 40% rise in poverty, mass unemployment and a huge cap between the rich and the poor. Capitalism failed in Russia and in all former soviet republics.
