  • @gobprnosirve The reason you wouldn't use a carabiner is because it can get aligned improperly and loaded across the gate or minor axis while you are climbing, which would reduce the strength of the carabiner by about half if you were to fall. They just aren't as secure for climbing as the figure-8 retrace.
