@SamBuddwing Thank you, for that information. I need to read more instead of watching the video versions of novels ;-)!

@mickeymousebiker1 An interesting twist for the movie - in the novel, concern about financial records is dismissed by a character who says the corporations can rebuild without those records.

Powerful ending, the matador! the matador! me! me!!

@spacepatrolman Yep. I remember watching The Day the Earth Stood Still, The War of the Worlds, and The Time Machine on NBC's Saturday Night At the Movies. I recall the trailers for those flicks, as well. I can recall the voice (but, not the name) of the NBC booth announcer who introduced the movies before they began. Having a sharp memory comes from NOT drinking booze or doing drugs (like my contemporaries did back in the 1960s). I like Harrison Ford. Merry Christmas 2011 !

One of the most depressing, but most thought-provoking, movie endings ever.

Walter Matthau's character put it bluntly with a deadpan expression : "we have to forget about looking for survivors, or burying the dead, we need to retrieve all financial records from Wall Street -- our economy depends on it."

"There aint no time to wonder why, whoopie,we're all gonna die"!
