Picture quality, surround sound and ambient lighting stimulate your eyes and ears to make you feel as if you are in the movies and positively stimulate your senses. Touch is another important sense that has a strong connection with your emotions. Philips Research is investigating why there is such a strong connection between emotion and touch and how this can be used as stimulus for people to master their desired mood. In a combination with emotion- sensors, the technology could be used to unobtrusively assess feelings and proactively anticipate needs and be used to positively stimulate certain moods and create an environment that feels safe and comfortable. Fi it may be possible to sense when a baby is restless and then stimulate the right emotions to help it settle, without intervention. Or to de-stress patients in hospital waiting rooms. Sleep and increased productivity are also being considered.
