East End Lives is a unique project that examines the East End of London through the eyes of tenants and residents of East End Homes. The project started in October 2008 and has already produced a thirty minute documentary on the lives of six different characters (see http://www.eastendlives/eastendlives2009).
Local artists and film makers Hazuan Hashim and Phil Maxwell are now in the process of shooting a second film about the East End. The film will be completed by March 2010 and will provide another insight into one of the most fascinating areas of London.
Because a new film will be made every year the project will build up a unique archive of the area and how it changes over a period of time.
The project is also supported by the extensive East End archive of Phil Maxwell who lives in Whitechapel and has been photographing the area for over 30 years.
