A visit to the US Coast Guard Base on Governor's Island, NY. Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Coast Guard, 1790-1990. Various island scenes and a tour of the USCGC DALLAS.
Thanks for letting me see my old childhood memories and the Dallas! G.I. was the coolest place I ever lived. I visited gov island this past weekend. It was cool to see my old stomping ground however it just isn't the same. Ps 26 is completely gone :( may she rest in peace. I will always cherish my days living here.
Thanks for the memories! My dad was stationed at the base in 1990, so it is nice to see everything again. I would love to get back there again some day and relive childhood memories. School, baseball fields, the castle when they had it as the haunted house for Halloween.
Thanks for the memories. I was stationed there in 1990 and remember that. It's nice to see video of what it was like when CG personnel and autos roamed the island, the way I remember it. I had forgotten that there were BEQ above the infirmary. The innocent days when the public could stroll a military base in NYC!!! I used to love to watch the skyline at night from the bench at the island's north edge (near the castle / prison).
i was a brat there from 74 to 79 and again in 89 to 90. Coolest place in the world to grow up at both ages. Great memories
