The music world lost a huge talent when singer songwriter drummer Phil Seymour died from lymphoma in August 1993. As part of the Dwight Twilley Band, he and his partner found success in the mid 70s when their debut single "I'm On Fire" peaked at #16 on Billboard's Hot 100, a song that has since become an American pop classic. It wasn't until the 1980s and his split from Twilley that the music industry began to take notice of him as an artist...he'd embarked on a promising solo career and his first album on Boardwalk Records was getting quite a bit of attention. Sadly, his success was short-lived..when Boardwalk Records folded after the death of it's founder Neal Bogart, Phil was left without a recording contract and at the mercy of his own personal demons. He eventually emerged from the morass of drugs and alcohol, joining up with long time friends the Textones in 1984 playing drums on their album"Midnight Mission" and on the tour that followed. Though never quite achieving the level of success he had during the early 80s, Phil Seymour still continued to make his special brand of music right up till the day he died.
This energetic cover of Bobby Fuller's Let Her Dance, is Phil Seymour at his best, the video accompanying the song a poignant reminder of the immense talent we lost at his passing. Someone once described Phil as the sexiest thing that ever walked on two legs ....I second that a hundredfold.

Okay, just to let y'all know, I don't own the copywrite on this vid or its song and my posting it is not meant to be an infringement or any of that nonsense...I posted it as a tribute to a rocker that deserves to be heard and deserves to be celebrated as a powerpop pioneer.

  • Killer video! Thanks for posting it. I was a fan back in '81-82 and I never saw it back then. Phil is so...punky in it. I met him on the Santa Monica Pier back in 91 or so. He was with his then fiance, who was herself losing her sight. They were very humble and I was glad to be able to recognize him and tell him how much I liked his music.

  • @swagner64 Are you referring to Jackie? If so, that's beyond tragic....Phil dying of cancer, and Jackie going blind at the same time? As if they weren't suffering enough with Phil's illness....God, what a heartbreaker.

  • Wow! This is GR8!

  • @carolhill1 Yeah, it is, ain't it? Can't believe how hard it is to find anything on Phil....there's an American Bandstand video of him as well but I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

  • i figure him like only one who could replace MICK JAGGER on the ROLLING STONES

  • I really like Phil's version here, but what happened to the Bobby Fuller Four clip from "Shivaree" that was on youtube for the past few months? What, did the estate of Gene Weed want it removed or something?
