Celie started these 2 signs when she was 9 months old, before she could talk. The sign for "Thirsty" Started out as her bringing her sippy cup and shaking it back and forth, and it evolved into the sign in this video. I don't know how she came up with the sign for "please", but it looks like a pretty good sign. We knew what she meant.

Actually there are baby sign language classes you can take, to teach your baby how to sign, before they can talk. All of their communication is non-verbal. Signing just makes things a little easier. It weeds out some of the guess work. lol
